First Lady Announces Kentucky Derby Poster Winners
Kentucky Ag Connection - 03/07/2018

First Lady Glenna Bevin announced the winning entry, as well as the second- and third-place finishers, in her annual Kentucky Derby Poster Contest.

This year's first-place winner, Ashley McHone, is an 11th grader at Shelby County High School. McHone will receive a $500 scholarship from the First Lady's foundation, #WeAreKY! Inc., and her poster will be on permanent display at the State Capitol. A copy of her artwork will also be presented to the president of the Kentucky Derby Festival, as the Governor's traditional gift.

McHone's poster will be available for purchase in April in the Governor's office (700 Capital Avenue, Room 100, Frankfort) or on the First Lady's website (http://firstlady.ky.gov).

Mallery Marshall, a 9th grader at Pleasure Ridge Park High School (Jefferson County), had the second-place entry and will receive a $300 scholarship from the First Lady's foundation. Jessica Lee, a 12th grader at St. Henry District High School (Boone County), had the third-place entry and will receive a $200 scholarship.

All Kentucky high school students were invited to participate in the contest. Students were asked to submit their artwork, based on the following theme: "What does the Kentucky Derby look like to you?"

"There were many beautiful and creative works of art submitted in this year's Derby Poster Contest," said Mrs. Bevin. "These talented students made it difficult for Matt and I to pick a winner. We want to congratulate and thank all of the students who submitted their artwork and would encourage them to participate again next year."
