Minnesota Ag Connection - 11/10/2017

The Minnesota AgriGrowth Council (AgriGrowth) Thursday awarded its annual Distinguished Service Award to University of Minnesota Climatologist Dr. Mark Seeley during its 2017 Annual Meeting and Conference. AgriGrowth's Annual Meeting and Conference is the pinnacle gathering of leaders from the production agriculture, agribusiness and food production community in Minnesota, and is known for excellent networking opportunities, renowned speakers and access to the top experts of policy, business and agriculture.

Dr. Seeley embodies the mission of the award through his work with research and extension programs related to the meteorological and climatological data for agricultural production systems. "Minnesota farms and agribusinesses are greatly affected by changing weather and climate patterns, and Dr. Seeley has been an essential resource and expert on air and in print to help those both inside and outside agriculture understand both historical and current climate trends," stated Perry Aasness, Executive Director of AgriGrowth. AgriGrowth Chair Pat Lunemann stated: "It's been an AgriGrowth tradition since 1968 to present an annual Distinguished Service Award to someone deserving of recognition for their unique service and achievement within the food and agriculture industry. It is my privilege as Chair of AgriGrowth to recognize Dr. Seeley's contributions with our 2017 Distinguished Service Award."

Dr. Seeley joins a distinguished list of individuals who reflect success, commitment, entrepreneurship, dedication, and other leadership qualities toward service to Minnesota's food and agriculture sector.

As faculty at the University of Minnesota's Department of Soil, Water, and Climate since 1978, Dr. Seeley has dedicated himself to public speaking engagements, meetings, media interviews and person-to-person interactions. His knowledge of the critical relationship between climate and agricultural production is well-known and as an advocate he has been instrumental in teaching this intricate relationship to farmers and consumers alike.
