Nebraska Ag Connection - 03/07/2018

Lt. Governor Mike Foley presented a proclamation from Governor Pete Ricketts highlighting March 5 as Animal Hall of Fame Recognition Day in Nebraska. The Nebraska Animal Hall of Fame Award is sponsored by the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA). This year, Rocky the Golden Retriever was inducted into the Nebraska Animal Hall of Fame and was present at the State Capitol to help receive the proclamation.

"Congratulations to Rocky on being inducted into the Nebraska Animal Hall of Fame," said Lt. Governor Foley. "Animals are an important part of building a great quality of life in Nebraska. This is a neat opportunity to recognize animals, like Rocky, who are positively impacting our communities."

Rocky, born with a congenital deformity that left him with a short abnormal right front leg, is a certified therapy dog that volunteers at places like Madonna Rehabilitation Center and Nebraska Medicine. He is known for his gentle spirit and ability to connect with people, especially those that share similar physical challenges.

The goals of the Animal Hall of Fame Award are:

- To honor the outstanding contributions our animal companions make to human lives

- To heighten public awareness of the human-animal connection

- To allow NVMA members to share in the celebration of their patients' accomplishments
