'Feed With Care' Urges Pets be Included in Resolutions
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 01/02/2018

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is kicking off the new year with a campaign urging pet owners to "Feed With Care," and consider safe feeding habits to protect their pets' wellbeing.

"New Year's Day brings renewed focus on healthier eating habits for many of us," Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding said. "Pets can't make New Year's resolutions, but you can include them in yours. The Department of Agriculture can help you kickstart your resolution to be more mindful of your pet's health and eating habits."

Feed With Care gives simple instructions for guarding your pet's eating habits, reminding pet owners to 1) avoid feeding pets human food, 2) read labels to know ingredients and how much is right for your pet's age and breed, 3) check packaging for damage, and 4) store pet food in a cool, dry place in its original container.

To learn more, visit the Department of Agriculture's booth in the Main Hall of the Farm Show Complex during the 2018 Pennsylvania Farm Show, January 6-13 for advice from animal food experts, and pick up a free measuring scoop for your favorite pet's food. Follow the campaign on social media, or download the video for your own use.

As part of its mission to protect animal health, the department licenses and inspects businesses that make and sell animal food. If you suspect that pet food has negatively affected your pet's health, you can file a complaint at agriculture.pa.gov/feedwithcare, or call 717-787-4843.
