Herseth Sandlin Announces Disaster Declaration
USAgNet - 07/30/2010
Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin announced that the President has issued a major disaster declaration for South Dakota to help affected communities recover from severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that
occurred June 16-24, 2010.
"Our state has experienced a number of recent extreme weather events, in addition to flooding, that caused significant damage to rural areas across South Dakota," Rep. Herseth Sandlin said. "This
presidential disaster declaration will help aid the ongoing recovery, and I will continue to work with state and local officials, as well as tribal leaders, to assist in these efforts."
Rep. Herseth Sandlin recently joined Senators Johnson and Thune in writing the President to support Governor Rounds' request for a disaster declaration. She has held nine community meetings since April to
discuss ways South Dakota can improve its ability to respond to the current flooding and mitigate the effects of future flooding and other disasters.
Dewey, Perkins, and Ziebach Counties, as well as the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation are eligible for federal aid because of this declaration.
