USDA to Survey County Row Crops Acreage
USAgNet - 10/22/2018

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will survey producers in 42 states for its County Agricultural Production Survey.

The survey will collect information on total acres planted and harvested, and total yield and production of row crops down to the county level. The County Agricultural Production Survey will provide the data needed to estimate acreage and production of selected crops in the United States.

"The data provided by producers will help federal and state programs support the farmer," said King Whetstone, director of the NASS Northeastern Regional Field Office. "I hope every single producer understands the importance of these data and will take the time to respond if they receive this survey. Producers benefit when there is data available to help determine accurate loan rates, crop loss insurance payments, or government program payments that were established under the Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs. When enough producers respond to surveys, NASS is able to publish data. Without data, agencies such as USDA's Risk Management Agency or Farm Service Agency may not have information on which to base the programs that serve those same producers."

NASS will contact survey participants to gather row crops acreage and production information.

As an alternative to mailing or faxing the survey back, growers will have the option to securely respond to the survey online. Farmers may also wait for a phone call from a NASS representative who will help them fill out the survey form. To safeguard all individual responses, NASS will publish only aggregate data, ensuring the confidentiality of all individual respondents.

Survey results will be published on the NASS web site. For more information on NASS surveys and reports, call the NASS Northeastern Regional Field Office at (800) 498-1518.
