USAgNet - 03/26/2024

The U.S. Grains Council (USGC) recently unveiled the 2023/2024 Corn Export Cargo Quality Report, marking a significant year for U.S. corn quality. With the corn surpassing U.S. No. 2 grade in all assessed categories, the findings represent an improvement over the past five-year average. This development supports the USGC's mission to enhance global food security and economic benefits through agricultural trade.

Derived from 433 samples of yellow commodity corn, the report reflects comprehensive testing done during the export grading and inspection process. Despite challenging weather conditions, including low rainfall and periods of heat and drought, the 2023 corn crop exhibited a rapid maturation, resulting in a harvest of high overall quality.

The average test weight and protein concentration of the corn were higher than the previous year and the five-year average, affirming the crop's robust nature. all samples met safety standards for aflatoxins and deoxynivalenol, ensuring the corn's suitability for global markets.

This latest cargo quality report, along with the previously published Corn Harvest Quality Report, provides valuable insights into the quality of U.S. corn from harvest to international markets. The consistency and transparency of these reports offer crucial information for buyers, setting clear expectations for the current marketing year's corn quality.

Looking ahead, the USGC plans to share these positive findings through a series of crop quality seminars worldwide, including in Central America and South Korea. These educational efforts aim to reinforce the reliability and excellence of U.S. corn in the global marketplace, furthering the USGC's commitment to fostering trade relationships and ensuring food security across the globe.
