The University of Nevada, Reno is set to host the 2nd Annual Western Agricultural and Environmental Law Conference on June 13-14, where pivotal discussions on agricultural and environmental policies will take place. Fitzhugh Elder IV and Rosy Brummette, seasoned policy experts from the U.S. Senate, will lead the "Update from the Potomac" session, focusing on the upcoming 2024 Farm Bill and other crucial federal issues affecting the Western states.

The session aims to shed light on significant topics such as public lands management, specialty crops, dairy, forestry, conservation, federal crop insurance, and carbon markets. With the 2018 Farm Bill extended to September 2024, stakeholders are keen to understand the future landscape of agricultural legislation.

The conference will provide an invaluable platform for farmers, producers, and legal professionals to gain insights directly from policymakers deeply involved in agriculture funding and policy development. Brummette highlighted the substantial economic impact of agriculture in the Western states, noting that the issues of water, conservation, and climate are particularly pressing.

In addition to the discussions, the conference will offer continuing legal education credits, with approvals pending in several Western states. The event will also be available via livestream for those unable to attend in person.

This gathering is not only a chance to learn about critical developments but also an opportunity to engage with leaders at the forefront of agricultural and environmental law.
